IWD 2025: Accelerating Action
In collaboration with London Stadium Associate Partnership and Leyton Orient Community Partnership, we recently had the privilege of sitting down with Chris, VM Elevators’ external dedicated AI and Data Protection Officer, for a conversation around this year’s International Women’s Day theme: Accelerating Action. During our discussion, Chris a business leader and strong advocate of women in tech, shares her personal experiences navigating a career in technology — a sector that, much like construction, has historically lacked strong female representation.
The importance of accelerating meaningful change cannot be overstated, especially when businesses across industries are being challenged to actively address the underrepresentation of women in fields like construction, engineering, and technology. Progress doesn’t happen by chance — it takes conscious effort, targeted initiatives, and leaders who are willing to champion equality at every level.
At VM Elevators, driving representation forward isn’t just a passing conversation; it’s embedded in the way the business operates. From ensuring women at VM Elevator’s are in senior management positions, to actively encouraging more female apprentices to enter the lift industry, VM Elevators is determined to be part of the solution. Their outreach work within local schools — particularly through hands-on STEM initiatives — aims to inspire the next generation of girls to pursue careers in engineering, technology, and other technical trades. By visibly representing women within their workforce, VM Elevators hopes to send a clear message: this industry belongs to everyone.
Whether you’re a leader shaping policy, a mentor offering guidance, a sponsor opening doors, or an ally using your voice to amplify others — every action counts. Together, we can break down outdated perceptions and build a future where gender is never a barrier to success.
This International Women’s Day, take a moment to celebrate the women who inspire you. Tag someone who has made a difference in your life, your career, or your community.
