10 Questions London Property Owners Must Ask Before Installing a Luxury Lift
Installing a luxury lift is a major investment, particularly in high-end London properties where architectural design and building constraints must be carefully considered.
Before beginning a project, property owners should ask several key questions to ensure the lift system meets both practical and design expectations.
1. Is the Lift Designed Specifically for My Building?
Every building is different. Bespoke lift design ensures the system fits the available space and works within structural constraints.
2. What Shaft Space Is Required?
Understanding shaft requirements early helps architects and engineers plan the building layout effectively.
3. What Design Finishes Are Available?
Luxury lifts offer a wide range of finishes, from glass cabins to bespoke lighting and custom control panels.
4. What Ride Quality Can I Expect?
High-end lift systems prioritise smooth travel, quiet operation, and refined passenger comfort.
5. Can the Lift Be Integrated with Smart Building Technology?
Modern lift systems can integrate with access control, smartphone applications, and intelligent building management systems.
6. What Are the Installation Requirements?
A professional lift survey will identify structural considerations, electrical requirements, and installation timelines.
7. How Long Will Installation Take?
Project timelines vary depending on the complexity of the installation and the building environment.
8. What Maintenance Will Be Required?
Regular maintenance ensures lifts remain safe, compliant, and operating reliably.
9. Is the Lift Future Ready?
A well-designed lift system should allow for upgrades and modernisation in the future.
10. Which Lift Specialist Should I Work With?
Choosing an experienced lift company is essential. Specialist engineers can guide property owners through the design, installation, and long term maintenance of luxury lift systems.
At VM Elevators, we work with architects, developers, and property owners to deliver bespoke luxury lifts across London, providing engineering expertise and design flexibility for high-end projects.
Smart Lift Controls for 2026: Touchless, App-Integrated and Voice-Activated Systems
As buildings become smarter, lift technology is evolving to match. Modern lift systems increasingly incorporate digital controls, mobile integration, and touchless technology.
For luxury developments in London, these features enhance convenience while supporting modern building management systems.
Touchless Lift Technology
Touchless lift systems gained significant attention in recent years as building owners sought ways to reduce contact with shared surfaces.
Motion sensors, smartphone interaction, and gesture-based controls allow users to call lifts or select floors without touching buttons.
This technology is particularly useful in high traffic environments such as luxury apartment buildings and hotels.
Smartphone Lift Integration
Mobile applications are becoming a popular addition to modern lift systems. Residents can call a lift directly from their smartphone, reducing waiting times and improving convenience.
Some systems also allow secure access control integration, ensuring only authorised residents can access certain floors.
This feature is particularly valuable in high-end residential developments and penthouses.
Voice Activated Lift Controls
Voice interaction is beginning to appear in some smart building environments. While still developing, voice control allows users to request lifts or select floors using spoken commands.
Although this technology is not yet standard across all lift systems, it is expected to become more common as smart building infrastructure evolves.
Integration with Smart Buildings
Luxury lifts can also integrate with wider building management systems. This allows lifts to respond intelligently to building traffic patterns, security access systems, and energy management strategies.
For developers planning future-ready properties, integrating lifts with smart building infrastructure is becoming an increasingly important consideration.
The Future of Luxury Lifts in London
As smart technology continues to evolve, lifts will play an increasingly important role in connected buildings.
VM Elevators works with developers and property owners to design future-ready luxury lifts for London developments, combining elegant design with intelligent technology.
Courteney runs for Sands – baby loss charity
👋 Hi everyone and happy Friday. We are coming to you to ask if anyone can donate the cost of their morning coffee to support our team mate Courteney, who is running for an incredible cause and has to meet her £270 target.
💔 Did you know that thousands of parents and families across the UK face the profound heartbreak of pregnancy and baby loss each year.
🙏 Courteney is running for Sands – baby loss charity, in memory of her sister who would be turning 21 this year, the charity is very close to her and her family’s hearts, and she would like to raise as much money as she can, so that they can continue their incredible work, of supporting families every day/ month/ year – who go through the trauma of losing a baby.
🩵 Sands charity supports families through every step of their journey. Sadly, around 13 babies die each day in the UK shortly before, during, or soon after birth. This includes stillbirths and neonatal deaths, with thousands of families affected every year. At least 1 in 6 pregnancies ends in miscarriage, adding to the many experiences of early pregnancy loss that often go unspoken. These heartbreaking realities highlight why Sands’ work is so vital, providing compassionate support, raising awareness, campaigning for better care, and funding research to help prevent future losses and ensure no family faces this alone.

Why London’s High-End Properties Choose Bespoke Luxury Lifts Over Standard Solutions.
London’s most prestigious residential developments, boutique hotels, and heritage buildings are increasingly turning to bespoke luxury lifts rather than standard lift models. In a city where architecture, design, and prestige matter, a lift is no longer just a functional piece of equipment. It is an extension of the building’s identity.
For property owners and developers across London, choosing luxury lifts means investing in design, performance, and long term value.
A Lift That Matches the Architecture
Standard lifts are designed for mass production. They are built to suit general building layouts and common specifications. While this approach may work for some commercial projects, it rarely suits London’s more complex or architecturally sensitive properties.
Many high-end developments feature unusual shaft sizes, heritage restrictions, or carefully curated interior design schemes. A bespoke lift allows engineers and designers to tailor every element of the installation, from shaft configuration and cabin dimensions to finishes and lighting.
For luxury residential developments in areas such as Mayfair, Kensington, and Chelsea, this level of customisation ensures the lift integrates seamlessly with the building.
Interior Design That Reflects Luxury Living
One of the defining features of luxury lifts London property owners seek is the ability to customise cabin interiors. Bespoke lifts can incorporate premium materials such as glass, bronze, brushed steel, marble, and specialist lighting features.
Rather than appearing as a generic utility, the lift becomes a design feature within the property.
Architects and interior designers often specify bespoke lifts so that the cabin interior complements surrounding materials, flooring, and finishes.
Space Efficiency in Complex London Buildings
London buildings are rarely straightforward. Many luxury developments involve refurbishing older structures, converting townhouses, or integrating lifts into listed buildings.
Standard lift models may struggle to fit within these constraints. Bespoke lift engineering allows greater flexibility, ensuring the lift system fits the available space without compromising usability.
This approach is particularly valuable in heritage buildings where structural alterations must be carefully managed.
Enhanced Ride Quality and Performance
Luxury lift users expect a smooth, quiet, and refined experience. Bespoke lifts can be engineered with advanced drive systems, improved noise control, and enhanced ride comfort.
In high-end residential properties, ride quality matters. A smooth lift journey contributes to the overall living experience and reinforces the premium nature of the property.
Long Term Value for Property Owners
While bespoke lifts may involve higher initial investment, they often deliver greater long term value.
Luxury lifts can increase property appeal, enhance resale value, and attract discerning buyers or tenants who expect premium amenities.
For developers, installing a bespoke lift can strengthen the overall positioning of a high-end building in the competitive London property market.

Happy International Women’s Day 2026
On this International Women’s Day, VM Elevators Ltd is pleased to welcome Court into the 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, a fantastic addition to our team whose energy, organisation, and fresh perspective will help us continue delivering exceptional service and support across all operations. Her arrival is a perfect reminder of the talent and diversity we’re building here.
We are pleased to say that our office management team is a 50/50 makeup of women and men, something we can celebrate daily as it reflects our commitment to an inclusive, balanced workplace where everyone thrives and contributes equally.
We read an article the other day which said that the lift industry is seeing steady progress in recruiting women to the sector even though it is still quite male-dominated. In technical and lift engineering roles, women make up around 2% of the workforce, but surveys show positive momentum: many companies report increases in female employees over recent years, and a majority wanting to get more women working in the field.
Broader efforts in recruitment, mentorship, and inclusive practices are helping bring fresh ideas to safety, innovation, and sustainability, proving that diversity truly elevates the entire industry.
#HappyInternationalWomensDay to all the inspiring women who keep the world moving, floor by floor!

VM Elevators, an evening at Brisbane Road
On 17 February, the VM Elevators team had the pleasure of attending an evening at Brisbane Road as part of the Leyton Orient Community Partnership programme.
The event brought together local businesses and partners to celebrate community collaboration, providing a fantastic opportunity to connect with organisations that share a commitment to supporting East London both on and off the pitch.
Hosted by Eleven Sports Media, the evening delivered outstanding hospitality and a memorable behind-the-scenes experience at the club. One of the highlights of the night saw our very own Service Manager step onto the pitch to take a strike at goal, though whether it found the back of the net remains a topic of lively debate back at the office.
Guests also had the opportunity to hear insights from legendary Leyton Orient manager Richie Wellens before watching the Plymouth fixture together, creating a brilliant atmosphere that reflected the passion and pride surrounding the club.
As an East London business formed in 2008, VM Elevators is proud to support initiatives that strengthen local connections and celebrate the communities we work within every day. Our partnership with Leyton Orient reflects our belief that businesses play an important role beyond their industry, contributing to opportunities, engagement and shared experiences within the community.
We’re grateful to Eleven Sports Media and Leyton Orient Community Partnership for hosting such an enjoyable and well-organised evening.
Take a look at some of our favourite moments from the event in the gallery below, including our very own Leyton Orient Statzone.
