Background
VM Elevators was engaged by a property management company in Putney to modernise a 1960s passenger lift that had become unreliable and outdated. The lift required a full upgrade to meet current regulations, improve safety, and enhance performance. Following a detailed site survey and assessment, we developed a proposal to modernise the lift while incorporating recommendations from industry consultants.
Modernisation Scope
- Lift Motor Room – Installation of a new motor, gear unit, and advanced control system to improve efficiency and reliability. Safety enhancements included an A3 unintended movement safety brake, new overspeed governor, and updated wiring. The motor room was also fully refurbished with new lighting, safety barriers, and a fresh coat of paint.
- Lift Landings & Hoistway – Upgrades included new landing push buttons and digital indicators for improved user experience, along with enhanced door mechanisms, safety features, and a full repaint of the lift shaft and pit to extend longevity.
- Lift Car Refurbishment – A complete transformation featuring a new door operator, guide shoes, and full-height safety sensors. The interior was upgraded with stainless steel panels, improved lighting, modern flooring, and an emergency communication system to enhance both aesthetics and passenger safety.
