Overview
In April 2025, VM Elevators completed a carefully programmed lift modernisation project at an educational facility in Richmond. While the technical delivery was planned and executed with precision, this particular project came with a personal connection that made it especially memorable for our team.
Background
The project involved the full modernisation of a passenger lift controller using a Lester Controls system. With a strict turnaround window, the works were strategically scheduled for the spring half-term to ensure minimal disruption to the building’s day-to-day operation.
This project was not only about improving the reliability and performance of an ageing lift — it also marked a return for one of our engineers, who had previously attended the school as a student. Years later, he was back — this time leading the engineering upgrade on behalf of VM Elevators. A proud moment and a great example of how careers in the lift industry can go full circle.
Planning and Delivery
Planning for the project began in November 2024, with a detailed site survey and full programming of works well ahead of the target start date. Our engineers ensured that all parts were ordered and prepared for a scheduled delivery and installation date of 07/04/2025.
With a 7-day turnaround from equipment delivery to final installation, the project was delivered on time and within the designated holiday window.
The modernised lift now offers greater reliability, improved safety features and enhanced performance for daily users.
The client was a pleasure to work with and was exceptionally pleased with the outcome at handover. We are confident that this upgrade will enhance the energy efficiency and extend the lifespan of their lift, ensuring long-term reliability and performance.
